FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)
for Elementary Psychology

Questions are grouped by categories.

GENERAL QUESTIONS:
1. How can I get the lecture outlines?
The lecture outlines are available in Blackboard Vista (elearning) and on the course website.  The
outlines do not replace attending lecture.  Note that there is additional space between items - this
provides space for you to take your own notes.

2. I missed a quiz.  Can I make it up?
No.  The lowest quiz score is not included in your quiz average.  Therefore there are no make up
    quizzes.

3.  What is the 5 digit ID number that is used for exams?
At the beginning of the semester, you had an opportunity to filled out a form providing me with a five
digit number.  This  is a number that you selected, in which exam scores, quiz scores, and research
participation can be posted on the web.

CRITICAL THINKING ASSIGNMENTS:
1. Where can I get the critical thinking assignments?
The critical thinking assignments are posted on in Blackboard Vista with the date that they are due.

2. How many critical thinking assignment do I have to complete?
Four.  You did not have to do all of the critical thinking assignments.  You can do five of the
exercises and I then take the top four scores.

3. Can I do the extra critical thinking assignments for extra credit?
No.  See the syllabus for the extra credit assignment.

4. Can I turn the critical thinking assignments in early?
No.  All critical thinking assignments are to be turn in on the day that they are due.  This helps me
keep all of the assignments together.  However, it would be wise to start on it early instead of
     waiting until the night before.

5.  Can I email you my critical thinking assignment?
No.  It is safer to hand in a copy on the day that they are due.  In the past, I have accidentally
deleted a number of emailed assignments instead of printing them.

RESEARCH PARTICIPATION:

1. What if an experiment is worth 2 credits?
Some of the longer experiments are worth 2 credits instead of 1.  The research credit is based
on the number of points you earn, not the number of experiments. So an experiment worth 2
points helps moves closer to the goal quicker.

2.  Can I participate in the same experiment more than once?

     No.

3. How can I sign up for an experiment?
You need to use Sona-Systems (http://ipfw.sona-systems.com/main.asp) an online program that will allow you
to sign up for experiments.  Make sure you read the descriptions of the experiment and their specific
    requirements.

5. How can I find out how many credits I have earned?
When you first logon to Sona-Systems your credits are listed below your name on the line titled credit balance.
    This line looks like:
Credit Balance #            (earned credit: #             Penalty: #)
Credit Balance is the number of credits that will be reported to your professor.  Earned credit is the number
of experimental points earned and penalty reflects points lost.

5. Sona-Systems will not let me sign up for an experiment.  What do I do?
Consult the handout regarding the Research Requirement to make sure that you are doing everything
correctly.  If you still have difficulty, then call the number on the research credit policy.

6. How can I find out which experiments I signed up for?
After you log on to Sona-Systems the next screen provides your credit balance.  If you scroll down, you
will see the various  experiments that you have sign up for including the time and location of the experiment.

7. I lost my copy of the explanation for research participation? How can I get that information?
A copy of the hand out is accessible through this link - view site.
