MA 165 -- Calculus I

Book: James Steward -- Calculus: Concepts and Contexts – 3rded.

Course Description: I shall cover chapters 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5.1-5.5. The main content of the course is devoted to functions and models, limits and continuity, derivatives and their applications Physics, Economics, etc.,  as well as integration and the relation to differentiation, in particular the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus and its applications.

Grading: There will be four tests, ten quizzes, and a comprehensive final. The contribution of each is as follows: quizzes -- 10%; best three tests -- 60%; homework -- 5%; Final -- 25%. The grade for the course is according to the scale:

A 90 -100; B 80-89; C 70-79; D 60-69; F below 59.

No make up tests or quizzes will be given (unless proper excuse is provided).

Homework: Homework will be collected and graded weekly. It is the instructor's experience that keeping up with the homework is an essential part of the preparation for the course. The problems on the tests and the quizzes will be similar to the homework.
