MA 229 -- Applied Calculus I

Book: Calculus An Applied Approach, 5th ed. by Larson and Edwards.

Course Description: I shall cover chapters 1-5. The main content of the course is devoted to functions and graphs, limits and continuity, derivatives and applications, and integrals.

Grading: There will be three tests (100 pts each), three quizzes (20 pts each), and ten (unannounced) short worksheet checks (5 pts each). The grade for the course is based on the scale:

A 360 - 410 pts, B 320-359 pts; C 280-319 pts; D 240-279 pts; F below 239 pts.

Make up tests or quizzes (unless proper excuse is provided) will be on a 90% bases (a score of 80 pts will be recorded as 72 pts). Worksheets will not be made up.

Homework: Homework will be assigned, but not graded. Students' attendance and work on homework wil be graded through the unannounced worksheet checks, which will be made of two homework problems. Also the problems on the tests and quizzes will be very similar to homework problems.
