Course description: MA
521 is an introduction to nonlinear optimization and its applications.
The course starts with some topics from real analysis, followed
by a study of convex sets and functions. The essence of the course
is optimization problems and convex programming, the nonlinear analog
of linear programming.
Grading: There
will be five homeworks (12% each), a Midterm and a Final - 20% each. Extra
credit homework for additional 10% will be assigned daily. The garding
scale is given below:
A 85 -100; B 75-84; C 60-74; D 50-59;
F below 50.
