MA 556 -- Introduction to the Theory of Numbers

Book: Elementary Number Theory, 6th ed. by David Burton

Course Description: I shall cover chapters 1-7, and parts of 9-11. The main content of the course is devoted to divisibility, congruencies, Diophantine equations, number-theoretic functions, perfect numbers, as well as some applications to cryptography and random number generators.

Grading: There will be two tests (25%), and daily homework (50 %).

 No make up tests will be given, unless a proper excuse is provided. Enclosed is the tentative teaching schedule.
