Book: Technical Calculus with Analytic Geometry by Allyn J. Washington 4th Ed.

Course description: MA 228 is a continuation of the Technical Calculus I course MA
227. I intend to cover material from Chapters 9-14. The topics are various
integration techniques, introduction to partial derivatives and double
integrals, polar coordinates, Taylor and Fourier series, and first-order
differential equations.
Different numerical methods and applications will be discussed. As a tool we shall
use the Computer Algebra System Maple.
Grading: There
will be four tests, ten quizzes, and a comprehensive final. The contribution of each is as follows:
quizzes -- 10%; best three tests -- 60%; homework -- 5%; Final -- 25%. The
grade for the course is according to the scale:
A 90 -100; B
80-89; C 70-79; D 60-69; F below 59.
No make up tests or quizzes
will be given (unless proper excuse is provided).
Homework: Homework will
be collected and graded weekly. It is the instructor's experience that keeping
up with the homework is an essential part of the preparation for the course.
The problems on the tests and the quizzes will be similar to the homework.
Enclosed is the tentative teaching
schedule.
