First Course in Mathematical Modeling – by Giordano, Weir, and Fox
Course description: I
shall cover Chapters 1-7 and Chapters 12-13. If time allows some other
topics may be introduced. The main content of the course is mathematical
modeling in its different aspects; creative and empirical model construction,
model analysis, and model research. We shall use graphical models,
discrete dynamical systems, model fitting, as well as experimental and
simulation modeling. Different real scenario projects will be assigned
and students will make their own presentations.
Grading: There
will be five projects (8% each), homework (20%), and midterm and final
exams (20% each). The letter grade is obtained according to the following
scale.
A 85 -100; B 75-84; C 60-74; D 50-59;
F below 50.
