If your paper is heavily based on the first 5 pages of a text we’ve read…
Note difference between a citation (which is information about page or line numbers) and a quotation, which is a chunk of primary text in your paper. They are both essential. And a paper without any quotations cannot possibly be good.
Don’t refer to page or line numbers in your prose (it’s unnecessary, and ugly).
“On page 24, Achilles says that he doesn’t want to fight any more.”
“Achilles tells his companions, “This fight is no longer for me.” (2.234)”
Remember your audience: don’t tell me the basics of the plot
