Paper 15%

A 1-page single spaced essay addressing the following:

1. A basic question that shows understanding of a concept in the text.

2. A deeper question (question behind/beyond the question) showing a deeper understanding of the text.

3. An answer to (2) showing that you have a full understanding of the topic.

 

+ Please be prepared contribute to the discussion of this topic during class discussion.

* Tie this concept into Chapter 1 (this is not included in the 1 page limit)

 

Informative Speech 15%

A 5-minute speech (please note less than 4:30 will be considered an incomplete assignment and receive a failing grade / likewise speeches in excess of 5:30 will receive 10% deduction every 5 seconds beyond 5:30) expanding upon a basic concept in a Chapter of studentŐs choice will be given to the entire class.  Speeches will be graded on criteria discussed in class.  A basic outline with rubric (Outline Sample/Rubric) is due prior to speaking, failure to do so will result in a 25% grade deduction.  Please bring a topic, thesis, or outline the class before your scheduled speech.  Speeches will begin no more that 10 minutes after the scheduled start time of class, no more that 2 minute of transition time will be give between speeches – please plan accordingly.

 

Persuasive Speech 15%

A 5-minute speech (please note less than 4:30 will be considered an incomplete assignment and receive a failing grade / likewise speeches in excess of 5:30 will receive 10% deduction every 5 seconds beyond 5:30) persuading their small group to adopt a project as the group project.  Speeches will be graded on criteria discussed in class.  A basic outline with rubric (Outline Sample/Rubric) is due prior to speaking, failure to do so will result in a 25% grade deduction.  Speeches will be given only to the small group and the instructor. No more that 2 minute of transition time will be give between speeches – please plan accordingly.

 

Group Speech 15%

A 30-40 minute group speech presenting to the class the project done by your group.
