Daphnia
| Today we used
daphnia to study the effects of alcohol, tabacco, and
other drugs on organisms. Daphnia are freshwater
crustaceans that are found in the United States and
Europe. Here is how we did the daphnia lab: - We put one daphnia in a droplet of freshwater on a slide and observed it under a slide. We identified it's body parts( heart, intestines, legs, eyes, etc.). Then we counted the daphnia's heart beat for 15 seconds and we recorded it. Then we found how many times the daphnia's heart beats regularly. Then we applied a drop of alcohol to the water and watched the effect of alcohol on the daphnia and it's heart beat. We found that it slowed down its hear beat! (click here for a picture of a daphnia) |
