Participation Criteria: Examples

How to assess your participation.

Examples:

1. Lisa came to class every day for the week (two days).  She spoke entirely in Spanish and had all the necessary materials with her.  She did all the assigned work before each class, and was an attentive and active participant in the class.

Lisa's participation grade:	Use of Spanish	10
	Preparedness	10
	Interaction: Class	10
	Total:	30

2. Sam attended class both days. He asked questions in English about material/instructions he didn't understand. He did most of the assigned work before class and was attentive in class, but only occasionally attempted to contribute.

Sam's participation grade:	Use of Spanish	8
	Preparedness	8
	Interaction: Class	6
	Total:	22

3. Karen was in class only one day without having excused her absences. She spoke only in Spanish, did most of the assigned homework, but did not take an active role in class or group activities.

Karen's participation grade:	Use of Spanish	5
	Preparedness	4
	Interaction:  Class	4
	Total:	13
