| S407 Survey of Spanish Literature I | F. Jehle |
The following quote was found in a newsletter, The
Beacon (Beacon Heights Church of the Brethren, Ft. Wayne, IN, Oct. 9,
1988; original source unknown).
Whether or not it is Chinese in origin, it expresses in a nutshell many of the ideas associated with the Renaissance (Renacimiento). Note in particular the individual terms and the progression involved: beauty (hermosura, belleza), harmony (armonía, concordia), order (orden, concierto), peace (paz, sosiego).
A Chinese Proverb
If there is righteousness in the heart, there will be beauty in character. If there is beauty in character, there will be harmony in the home. If there is harmony in the home, there will be order in the nation. If there is order in the nation, there will be peace in the world.
