1. Assignment: Review the subjunctive/indicative in adjective clauses, then translate the following selection. You may omit the parts in parentheses or brackets, or do the parts in parenteses for extra credit.

2. Compose your own essay/dialogue of approximately 200 words, taking care to use the subjunctive where needed. Regarding possibilities for topics, you might consider something related to complaints, such as a letter or editorial complaining about the bad features of something; this might provide numerous opportunities to use adjectival clauses: “No product I've ever used is as bad as this one; don't you have anyone on the production line who is concerned with quality control?”

     You never listen to me. When I tell you to do something, you just ignore me. I ask you to bring me the newspaper which is there on the table, and you don't do anything which indicates you (even) hear me. I've been taking care of you for several years now, but you don't appreciate anything I do for you. There's no one in this entire city who is as ungrateful (as you are). Why are you acting this way? Is there something that is bothering you? Do you have a problem which is causing this behavior? Have I done anything that has upset you? I think the only problem is that you are worthless. You never say anything that sounds pleasant. Instead, you just growl. And you never give me presents that prove you love me. Look at what I do for you: I *gave [as a gift to] you a beautiful sweater a week ago, I fix you the best food in the world, and I've told you I'll buy you anything you want. And whenever you ask for something, I get it. But then when I get you something (you say) you like, you destroy it within a day or two. And that reminds me of something else which irritates me; you're destroying our house. I don't see anything in this room that you haven't ruined. I've never known anyone who causes so much damage. I doubt that I can put up with this much more. Look at you! You just lie there; can't you say or do anything which suggests you understand [the seriousness of the situation]? ... Good grief, I'm afraid it's already 1:50, and our appointment is at two. Will you please get up so I can put your collar on and take you to the veterinarian?

     *There is a special verb in Spanish to express the idea of “to give (as a gift)”, regalar.
