Here are the answers to the words given for dictionary practice in
Lesson 1.
- Spanish to English:
- quepo - from caber, to fit. Quepo is the
irregular first person singular of the present tense: "I fit."
- estuve- from estar, one of Spanish's two verbs
for to be. I was.
- chile - chili pepper.
- chileno - Chilean. Capital letters are much less frequent
in Spanish than English.
- el hermoso - the beautiful or handsome person or thing.
- el demócrata - the democrat - either in general
(the person who believes in democracy) or a member of the U.S.
Democratic party.
- la libertad - freedom, liberty
- ensanchar - to broaden, expand.
- paño - cloth.
- ballena - whale
- English to Spanish:
- party (political) - partido
- spring - muelle, or resorte. (?which is more
appropriate, where or when?)
- spring - manantial or vertiente ("")
- boots - botas . A bota is also a wineskin (a wine
container made of leather).
- boot (computer) - cargar.
