FWCME OVERALL COMPETENCY PLAN

A medical student is required to achieve LEVEL 1 of each competency during first two years of the medical curriculum.  Training, or formative exercises, comprises most of the activities, although there are assessment tools used with each of these activities that are used to help determine the progress of individual students.  There are also summative activities, such as the OSCE (optimised standardized clinical evaluation) and the triple jump exam that are used to evaluate a student's progress more comprehensively.  The course directors meet together at the end of the first and second year to review and assess the progress of each student through the competency curriculum.  The final comprehensive assessment of LEVEL 1 competency occurs on the main campus in Indianapolis at the end of the second year when the students take a comprehesive, Level 1 OSCE.
