Goals:  Teaching of general and inorganic chemistry from the undergraduate to graduate level. Direction of various projects including the study of the synthesis of novel transition metal hydrides especially in relation to hydrogen storage materials and nanoscopic metal particle synthesis.  Provide leadership in programs that promote institutional and regional development particularly encompassing the elements of a sustainable as well as an advanced society.

1.   Teaching Scholarship and Service Experience:

 

College of Wooster (2002-2003):  J. Garber Drushal Distinguished Visiting Associate Professor and research advisor to three Independent Study advisees

 

Indiana University-Purdue University at Fort Wayne (1988-present): Synthesis and coordination chemistry of novel “H-only” complex hydride complexes, such as [FeH6]4-, with a special emphasis on complex hydrides and hydrogenation, mechanisms for inorganic reactions, and novel synthetic methods. Research in electron transfer reactions of macrocyclic complexed NiIII including aerobic autoxidation catalysis.  Northeast Indiana Regional NSF NMR administrator (1999-2001)

 

Chemical Engineering/Information Consultant (2002-present):  Have worked with clients in NE Indiana area requiring engineering/chemical solutions in subject areas ranging from anti-corrosion to chemical formulation and safety.

Los Alamos National Laboratory (June-August, 2007):   Visiting scientist in the Kubas group  (C-IIAC division) preparing transition metal hydrides in conjunction with hydrogen storage media.

 

Stockholm University (1999):  Visiting scientist in structural chemistry laboratory.

 

Kent State University (1986-1988):  Electron transfer reactions of CoIII-bound hydride donor molecules; redox reactions in aqua MoV chemistry.  [Directed by Prof. E. S. Gould]

 

University of Chicago (1983-1986):  Catalytic hydrogenations of ketones and arenes using neutral and anionic ruthenium polyhydridic complexes. [Directed by Prof. J. Halpern]

 

University of Georgia (1980-1983)Photogeneration of thermally active formate decomposing catalysts.  Techniques included organometallic syntheses and assorted methods [Directed by Prof. R. Bruce King]

 

University of Wyoming & Department of Energy (1977-1980): Quantitative and qualitative fuel materials characterization by 1H and 13C NMR [Directed by D.
