1. p 158: What's voir dire?

2. p 158: What do the authors refer to as the primary and secondary functions of voir dire?

3. p 158: So what's this article basically about?

4. p 159: What are the secondary functions of voir dire other authors have identified?

5. p 160: What are the three big categories of jury questions Reinard and Arsenault ascribe to other authors?  What are the three big categories of jury questions these authors identify themselves?

6. p 160 Who does voir dire in federal court?  Who does voir dire in Indiana courts?  (To find the answer, go to http://www.in.gov/judiciary/rules/trial_proc/trial_proc.pdf and scroll down to Rule 47(D). )

7. p 162: So what are the two hypotheses?  Putting on your COM 300 or COM 582 cap, what are the different variables you can pull out of the two hypotheses?  Which are independent and which are dependent?

8. p 162: So who are the participants in this study?

9. p 162: In your own words, what exactly did the participants experience in this experiment prior to being tested

10.  p 163: What were the three types of voir dire questions used here?  What are examples of each?  What makes each type strategic?  What were the two "non-strategic" questions?  Why did they ask those questions?

12.  p 171: Why do you think the "don't stereotype reminder" question works as it does?  Is there a persuasion principle you might point to?

13. bot p 171- top p 172: How do they say the "burden of proof reminder" question operates by itself?  In tandem with the "don't consider their background reminder" question?  How do you explain these phenomena in terms of what you've learned in other classes?

14. mid 172:  What effect do they say the "don't feel pressured to convict" reminder has?  How about the "overlook their background reminder" by itself?  In tandem with other questions?  How do you account for each of these?
