You can click on any of the years on the timeline at the top of this page to get a brief account of the important developments in the field of computer engineering and programming in that year.

Examine the first few years to get a sense of the early years of computing.

Examine the information from some of the later years (you may want to select a few from each decade at random).

Feel free to surf the web to discover new computer history sites on your own.

Select five events that you think were significant or important or interesting. Note them down on a piece of paper (you can use a pen/paper or type them in a word processor or cut and paste from the browser to the processor). A couple of lines about each event will be enough.  Remember that I am not looking for any "correct" answers.

Offer a brief explanation for your choice of events.  Why do you think they were significant?  Make sure you offer a coherent rationale.  Do not do a superficial cut-and-paste job.  (Around 250 words).
