General Microbiology

This course is an introduction to microbiology for Biology majors.  The textbook will be Prescott’s Principles of Microbiology, by J. M. Willey, L. M. Sherwood and C. J. Woolverton, First  Edition, McGraw Hill, 2002.  A manual for the lab portion of the course is available via Blackboard eLearning.  This course is taught every fall.

 

BIOL 579

Fate of Chemicals

This course is an undergraduate/graduate course that covers such topics as physical/chemical behavior of chemicals in the environment, biodegradation of chemicals by microorganisms and bioremediation principles and practices.  There is no textbook;  lecture outlines are delivered to students via Blackboard eLearning.  The course is offered every other fall (2010. 2012, etc.).

 

BIOL 250

Women and Biology

This course is cross listed with the Women’s Studies Program.  Three topics are covered:  reproductive biology, genetics and heredity, and environmental sciences.  The textbook is Biology:  Concepts and Connections, by N. A. Campbell and coauthors, Sixth edition.  Reading materials and lecture notes are delivered via Blackboard/eLearning.  The course is taught every other fall (2009, 2011, etc.)

 

BIOL 119

Principles of Structure and Function

This course is the second semester of a two=-semester sequence in introductory biology for Biology majors.  I teach the first half of the course which is devoted to cellular and molecular biology.  The textbook is Biology:  a Dynamic Science, by P. J. Russell and coauthors, First Edition.  The text is also used for the first semester course, BIOL 117.  The laboratory exercises are delivered to students via Blackboard/eLearning.  The course is taught every spring.
