1) Upcoming Geography and Chronology Quiz
On the links below I have provided you with printable maps for your upcoming Geography and Chronology quiz. For the quiz you will need to label the following maps and graphics listed below.
IMPORTANT NOTE: I have modified the maps so that they have only that information that I expect you to know; I have eliminated a handful of rivers from the original maps (in other words, study these maps & graphics):
- South American Political Map (click here and print image) [Figure 1.1 in the Olsen-Bruhns book on reserve at Helmke].
- Moseley textbook: Figure 9 (p. 24) of the major Rivers of Peru (click here and pring image).
- Andean Physiography Graphic (click here and print)
2) Chronology Hand Out for Geography and Chronology Quiz
For your upcoming Geography and Chronology quiz, you will need to know the Chronological Handout available by clicking here. You are responsible for knowing all information on this handout.
3) Term Paper
IMPORTANT: All paper topics must deal with some aspect of prehistoric South American societies. Papers that deal with modern traditional South American cultures, or continuity between prehistoric and modern South American cultures are unacceptable. If you are uncertain about the appropriateness of your paper topic, please consult with me. Remember that your paper topic and initial references must be approved by me.
The following are a series of links related to your term paper:
4) Conferences for Extra Credit
As discussed on the first day of class, you may attend five (5) conference talks on Andean/South American prehistory and summarize them for extra credit. The first conference is the 36th Annual Meeting of the Midwest Conference on Andean and Amazonian Archaeology and Ethnohistory, which will be held at University of Madison-Wisconsin.
