Case Study
The patient is a 30 year old male who has been experiencing various sensory deficits for two years. His initial problem was focal numbness in his left buttock.He then began to experience bladder and bowel dysfunctions as well as numerous urinary tract infections. He has difficulty sensing the need to empty his bowels and his bladder, which leads to fecal and urine retention. He has burning and numbness in the perineum and a burning sensation in the popliteal area. Initially, this burning sensation sometimes radiated to the buttocks and the sole of his right foot; this pain was initiated by touching the area, movements such as walking, and valsalva maneuvers. However, now the pain is constant.Family history and past medical history are not significant.
