DBMS Resources at CS-IPFW

The database program allows for the flexibility necessary to accommodate a broad spectrum of educational objectives in database systems. CS department is equipped with the state-of-the-art computer facilities to teach students modern database techniques.

Currently, CS has  software licenses for Oracle10G (industry standard) and MS SQL server. Open source programs such as MySQl, PostgreSQL and Berkeley DB are also available.  Built around these software are the three database courses IPFW offers, viz. CS364, CS365 and ACS565. These courses dwell on data modeling, object-oriented and distributed databases, SQL, embedded SQL, CASE tools and Internet based systems. CS-IPFW is also a member of Oracle’s Academic Alliance program that enables further access to Oracle database resources.

Future Plans:

(1)   Build a distributed database system based on servers running on UNIX, LINUX, Windows, etc.

(2)   Integrate DBMS resources with research activities of the Bioinformatics Research Group.
