This is a relatively old photo of the 18th Century Russian Orthodox Cathedral ("sabor") in Almaty. During Soviet times it could not be used for religious purposes. During some of that period it was used as a museum. Since Kazakhstan's independence, freedom of religion has been restored and the building returned to its original use. Substantial renovation work has been done and the building is much more attractive than it appears here.
