The background is the main entrance to the Nadir-Divan-begi Medresseh, established in the 17th Century. A "medresseh" is an Islamic school where boys studied from about age 6 until they became adults. During the "Dark Ages" of Europe, schools such as this throughout the Islamic world, and particularly in Bukhara and other cities in what is now Uzbekistan were centers of higher learning, particularly in science and mathematics.
The small park in front of the medresseh is a fine place to discuss important matters on a warm spring evening.
