GLOBAL STUDIES CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT GRANTS

Indiana University is a national leader in international curriculum in a wide range of academic departments and professional schools at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.  Despite the great variety and depth of course offerings at the IU system campuses, there are some disciplinary gaps in the comprehensiveness and interdisciplinary nature of course coverage.

Since 1996, the Center for the Study of Global Change has provided International Studies Curriculum Development Grants to IU Bloomington faculty members in both the College of Arts and Sciences and several professional schools (Business, Education, HPER, Law, Music, and SPEA).  The Center seeks to expand this program to other IU campuses in an effort to further internationalize the Indiana University system.  The Center will offer up to four Global Studies Curriculum Development Grants each year to develop new undergraduate or graduate international courses or substantially revise existing courses to include significant international content.  Projects which are broadly international or compare two or more world regions, promote collaboration among academic departments and professional schools, and create linkages between two or more IU system campuses are especially encouraged.  Courses which can be offered via interactive video in a synchronous format or Web-based courses designed in an asynchronous format will receive funding priority.

Global Studies Curriculum Development Grants can be used to “buy out” faculty time from teaching loads, hire graduate students with international expertise to develop lectures and/or reading assignments, library material acquisitions to support curriculum development, or faculty summer payments.
