Assignment 5: Wild Card!

Due: Monday, November 20

Length: 1000 words: (up to...4 pages or so)

Format: hard copy (print it), MLA format- NO LATE SUBMISSIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED.

Your next assignment is to write an expository essay on a subject of your choice. Remember, the purpose of an expository essay is to inform the reader by "exposing" them to "information" (from the Latin, informatio meaning: a representation, outline, sketch) Although citations may be helpful, you need not include any if you do not wish to. Use your TEXT to REPRESENT a CONCEPT. Your reader will be looking for interesting and original ideas (articulated clearly and precisely).

Some thoughts that may help:

You MAY want to use this as an opportunity to synthesize everything you have learned this semester in the form of a "prewrite" for your FINAL PROJECT (which is 40% of the final grade). You will have a body of text (assignments 1-4) that you have had an opportunity to "polish." You MAY do something "completely different" for your final project (if you CHOOSE to take that RISK). "Bravery" and "initiative" will be in your favor, but repeating former weaknesses will not.
