The Douglas, LaPlante Branch of the Tree

Names on this page: Douglas, Kampher or Kamfer, LaPlante

  • The Douglas family is of Scottish heritage from Canada, and Michigan. Charles (James?) Douglas was supposedly born in Saginaw, Michigan.
  • He may have had a sister Josie who lived in McBaine?, Michigan.
  • He also went by the name of ALTON Douglas.
  • He lived in both the Detroit and Toledo areas.
  • Supposedly, some of his brothers came to his funeral in Detroit in 1922, but were never seen again.
  • Speculation has it that the Douglas men were lumberjacks who immigrated from Canada.
  • Concurrently, the surname Kampher or Kampfer was used and it is unsure if this was a woman's maiden name or a step-father's name.

There may also be some connection to the name Guy Kampher.

the family tree ? Douglas (b. Scotland? - immigrated to Canada & Michigan 1800's) + wife unknown

    • Alton (James? ) Douglas 08-18-1875 - 02-15-1922 + Louise LaPlante b.1889
      • Charles Alton Douglas 10-17-1913 - 09-30-1978
      • Robert Douglas
      • Forest Douglas 12-25-1915
    • Josie Douglas

It is possible that Charles Douglas took his mother's maiden name when he set out on his own. Therefore, the original family name could have been Kampher or Kampfer. If you are related or think you are related in some way to any of the names above, please contact me.
