Oral History relates that John Conner & his 2nd wife, Winnifred Carter Quinn, traveled by wagon train along with about 50 other families from N.C. in the late 1850s to Ohio. Some stayed in the Oberlin area, while the rest went on to the last stop in Fremont, Ohio. The Conner and Dudley families are of caucasian and Native American heritage from North Carolina.
- I have found John Conner living in Beaver Creek Dist of Jones Co., North Carolina in 1850 with his daughters, (but no wife).
- His youngest daughter Alcy Conner - born 1839, North Carolina married Bartemus Hodge and moved to Oberlin, Ohio where she later married Fenderson Copes.
- His older daughter, Penelope (born 1835) married Oliver H. Dudley (born 1837) and lived in Elmore, Ohio.
- I am looking for descendents of Penney and Oliver Dudley and their daughter Laura Dudley b. 1863 married James Godette (born 1868) and lived in Oberlin, Ohio.
- Family stories say that John Conner's first wife was a Native American.
