Wildwood Preserve

Wildwood Preserve includes 460 acres of forest, deep ravines, meadows, wildflowers, quiet overlooks across the floodplain of the Ottawa River and a tallgrass prairie. In addition, visitors may enjoy tours through the elegant 1938 Manor House of Robert Stranahan, Sr., co-founder of Champion Spark Plug Company.

Wildwood Preserve is an example of what we can accomplish as private citizens. In 1973 a local developer had plans for the Stranahan Manor House and grounds, but he wasn't prepared for what happened next. Local residents organized a grassroots citizens' campaign to save the Stranahan Estate. The campaign went all the way to the voting booth and in 1974 voters approved a special property tax levy to finance the purchase and improvement of the Stranahan Estate as a Metropark. Thank You Toledo voters !

Although all of the parks programs are highly educational, you just can't miss Groundhog Day at the Stranahan Estate:
